the quad driver is basicly half of the pcm or computer in the car . it will either be resposible for the input or output side of the computer or 4 of 8 0r quad portion of your computer . also if you disconnected a sensor or your lockup connector at your transmission you can induce this problem.
Need to know what quad drivers are...
In the computer.
It is really non fo your consern
Will not bolt up and is not strong enough for the 3800.
The quad driver on a 1992 Oldsmobile 88 Royale is an electronic component that controls various functions in the vehicle, particularly related to the engine and transmission management. It processes signals from sensors and sends commands to actuators, helping to ensure optimal performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions control. Additionally, the quad driver plays a role in managing the vehicle's electrical systems, contributing to overall reliability and functionality.
The Oldsmobile Calais, also known as the Cutlass Calais, was produced by General Motors from 1985 to 1991. In 1987, the Quad 4 engine was developed and the 1988 Calais was fitted with it. All?æof the Quad 4 14 engine types of the 2.3 liter version are interchangeable on the 1988 Calais.
Quad Challenge happened in 1991.
Quad drivers are small chips that perform on off functions inside the Engine Control Module. If you have a code which states there is a Quad Drivers Error, you need to check the items that that particular Quad Driver is controlling. For example, the a/c compressor relay, or trans solenoids etc...
Quad Challenge was created on 1991-08-06.
the quad driver module is a component of the ECM. you must replace ECM.
Look at your error codes again. It should read something like "quad driver module FAULT" not failure. It is VERY unlikely that your quad driver actually died. It is the high power control system that is in your computer. So replacing it, means replace the computer. To prevent this the Quad Driver has all sorts of internal protection hardware in its design. The likely thing that is wrong is something the Quad Driver is connected to. And that The quad driver isn't seeing every thing correctly so thus the Fault. It also can fault if there is a wiring problem from the device to the quad driver. There are Test for each component. You should to to find out which is the problem. Consult your Shop Manual.
The quad driver circuit for a 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera typically includes several key components: the quad driver module itself, which houses multiple transistors or driver circuits for controlling various electrical functions; relays for switching high-current loads; and fuses to protect the circuit from overloads. Additionally, it may feature connectors for wiring harnesses that link it to other vehicle systems, such as lights and motors. This assembly is crucial for managing multiple outputs from the vehicle's electronic control unit (ECU).
