The torque converter uses hydraulic fluid to differ the amount of pressure it allows the engine to apply to the trans.This pressure control dictates how fast the trans works, therefore how fast the car goes. It is also an input for shifting and a multitude of other systems. If malfunctioning, all kinds, and im talkin ALOT, of symptoms can result.
