They are both lubricants but each one is blended for a specific purpose. They are not interchangeable. Engine oil must deal with high temperatures and contaminants in the open system. It is regularly drained out and replaced to remove the contaminants. Transmission Fluid is used in a closed system and is designed to last for a long time. Each lubricant has it's own specific additives.
Yes there is. They both will have different additives in them. There viscosity (thickness) will also be different. Transmission fluid has a red dye that is added so it can be distinguished from engine oil.
to the transmission, not the engine
Near the firewall , between the engine and transmission ( transaxle )
Rear main engine seal or front transmission seals
There is not much difference between power steering and transmission fluid. Many people use power steering in place of transmission fluid because it is cheaper.
You should never add transmission fluid to a Chevrolet 350 engine. You can add transmission fluid to the transmission through the transmission dipstick holder.
manual fluid is thicker auto trans is like power steering fluid..watery
NO!!!! do not do this, oil is oil, transmission fluid is transmission fluid, and antifreeze is antifreeze, do not mix any of these, it can perminately damage your engine.
Transmission fluid is a slippery liquid that acts as a lubricant for all of the moving parts inside your transmission. In an automatic transmission, this fluid also serves as a coolant and a viscous fluid that transmits power from the engine to the transmission. Motor oil is a lubricant used in internal combustion engine. they must be put in specific proportions.
On a 2000 Lincoln LS : The power steering fluid reservoir is between the engine and the DRIVERS side fender ( it takes MERCON automatic transmission fluid ) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * don't worry , the engine cooling fan fluid reservoir , which is between the engine and the passenger side fender also takes MERCON automatic transmission fluid
On a 2001 Ford Taurus : The automatic transmission fluid dipstick ( fill tube ) is between the engine air intake tube and the engine compartment firewall
The transmission dipstick is at the center rear of the engine comparment behind the distributor. This is how you have to fill the transmission fluid as well. DO NOT overfill the transmission fluid, that is the quickest and easiest way to damage a transmission. Transmission fluid is to be checked on a warm engine, idling in park.
