Change the fuel pump relay switch, located on the left front wheelwell just behind the coolant resevoir.
There is another cause for the code.
The valves can bend. You would then be repairing or replacing the engine.
Top end maintenance would be maintenance done to the head, or top of the engine. Typically this included grinding the valves, replacing valve seals, milling the head flat, and replacing the gaskets.
My check engine light came on because the terminals were not connected tightly. no. quite the contrary. if you have a "check engine" light on, disconnecting, or in this case replacing the battery will turn it off. you have a different problem.
i would have replaced water pump long before replacing radiator. also check engine oil to see if it has engine coolant mixed in.if it has then the problem is more likely to be a bad head gasket
Replacing the water pump will not cause the check engine light to come on. Either it is a coincidence or you have accidentally disconnected a wire or damaged a sensor somehow.

If the starter is engaging and is cranking the engine over but the engine refuses to run, my first guess would be the fuel pump is bad.

I would imagine that the tranny was not inserted correctly. In order to do this, you must use the poker.
if it has a carburetor try cleaning it and try replacing the throttlepositioning sensor.
It is cheaper than replacing the lifter
