A loud noise coming from the rear of your car when you stop could be caused by several issues. Common culprits include worn or damaged brake components, such as brake pads or rotors, which can create a grinding or clunking sound. Additionally, loose or damaged exhaust components or suspension parts, such as shocks or struts, may also produce loud noises under stress. It's advisable to have the vehicle inspected to identify and address the specific cause.
It's probably your shock mounts, I had the same problem. The noise went away after I replaced the shock mounts.
back struts are bad or exhaust is loose
I would check the suspension bushings, if one of them is worn it would cause a knocking noise.
Check your rear Shocks, Transmission mount, exc.
A loud thud noise in the rear brakes might be caused by stuck calipers or by brake drums that are out of round. You might also have uneven wear on the brake pads.
Wheel bearing is on its way out.
Maybe that thumping noise is the sound of another car smashing into the rear of your car.
Bearings going bad.
