The wheel bearing is part of the hub assy. it the part that the wheel attaches to. If you take your tire off you can see a round piece with 5 suds, that the hub assy. and the bearing is behind it.
check your wheel bearing / hub bearing assy
Pretty tricky. But you need to buy the manual. It is all there. The thing to consider is that the shock is actually a strut. The strut assembly includes the spring. You have to remove the entire strut assy to replace the strut. To remove the strut assy, first the tire has to come out. Then, disconnect the brake line, unless there is a bracket that allows you to just slide it out. Then remove the three nuts on top of the strut. The tricky part here is that access to those three nuts are tight, so you have to disconnect some ducts, access panels and brackets under the glove compartment. Once the three nuts are out, remove the bolt attaching the strut to the bottom arm. You need a heavy duty spring compressor to separate the strut from the assy.
first take wheel off, remove brake caliper, brake rotor then 4 bolts behind the front wheel bearing assy. then pull front axle out with wheel bearing attached then change u-joint and reassemble. PS wheel bearing assy can be stubborn so plenty of lubricant is needed to break loose
It is easier to replace the whole hub assembly. -remove wheel - remove caliper, brake pads and disk - disconnect tie rod end (separator required) - undo strut mount bolts - separate ball-joint (separator required)
the bearing assy comes as a complete package with the hub and ABS sensor, etc. --- 3 bolts connecting it to the knuckle (front) or arm (rear)
It is on front/rear hub assy - bearing, studs and wheel speed sensor
Steps are as follows: - Remove wheel - Remove brake pads and calipers - remove rotor - disconnect tie-rod end (you will need a specific tool for this) - undo strut mount bolts - Separate ball-joint (specific tool also required) - lift assembly out
to the best of my knowlege, they are a pressed in, non serviceable bearing assy. which means, that the whole wheel hub assy has to be replaced. dealer item mostly, but check the salvage yards for good ones. PS it's not a fun job; front end align. req'd.
ABS sensors are often a ring of metal teeth pressed onto the axle or hub. If any of those metal teeth were damaged when replacing the bearing it may trigger the ABS light.
I found this page with a decent step-by-step process to help guide me in replacing my LH Front Wheel Bearing Assy on my 99 GrandAM GT. It shows how to replace one on a Grand Prix, but they are extremely similar. http://www.paulstravelpictures.com/GM-Wheel-Bearing-Hub-Assembly-Replacement/index.html
I believe it is part of the wheel bearing/ hub assy.
