The IAT (Intake Air Temperature Sensor) on the 5.7 (Gen III) VT and early VX models, is located on the top left of the standard Induction Air Box. If the IAT Sensor reads hot air it sends a message to the ECU, which in hand retards timing. This retarded timing helps stop re-detonation (Pinging) but also reduces the engines power output. The answer to this problem is to relocate the IAT Sensor to behind the cars front inlet grill, where the air charge is cooler. This will trick the ECU (Cars Computer) into thinking the air temp is normal, hence no retarding of timing and full power of engine is on tap. Just remember to plug up the hole, left by the removal of the IAT. I would suggest that this modification be carried out by a reputable LS1 performance shop, as they can hook up with the cars ECU and check that all is safe.

Cheers, Just mad about LS1s.
