Most constant velocity (CV) axles are pretty much the same. A driveshaft on each side of the transaxle, with a short one on the driver's side, and a longer one on the passenger side feeding into the front wheels. Each CV axle has two universal type joints at each end. Some are ball bearing type as on a VW or a cross type as found on many standard drive shafts used on rearwheel drives and four wheel drives. Each of the four joints should be hidden with a rubber boot to protect from contaminants. Dirt and sand are the worst.
To check a CV, place the vehicle securely on stands, and remove the front wheels. Hold the wheel hub and turn the shaft. No play should be felt. Repeat for the transaxle end. There will be play pulling towards the hub, and trans. this is not a problem. Broken boots and rattling upon cornering are a dead giveaway of CV problems.
Since you asked this question, I would recommend an accomplished dealer or mechanic if you suspect problems.
the car is totaled
To replace the CV joint boot kit on a 2007 Kia Spectra, first lift the vehicle and remove the wheel for access. Detach the axle from the hub and slide it out from the transmission. Remove the old boot, clean the CV joint, and apply new grease. Finally, install the new boot, secure it with clamps, reinsert the axle into the transmission and hub, and reattach the wheel.

The CV joint in a 2000 Kia Sportage can be replace by roving the tires, axle nuts, and the knuckle bolts on the struts. Next, the CV joint can be removed by placing a screwdriver between the transmission and the CV joint will pop out.
To replace the CV joint-axle in a KIA Spectra GS X, first, safely lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands. Remove the wheel, then detach the brake caliper and rotor to access the axle. Next, remove the axle nut and any retaining bolts from the CV joint to the transmission. Finally, pull the old axle out, insert the new one, and reassemble all components in reverse order, ensuring everything is securely tightened.
You can buy a CV joint boot kit and install it fairly easily if you can find a boot that bolts together in the center. Just cit the old boot off, put the new boot on , install the grease, bolt up the sides, and put on the hose clamp.
If when turning you hear a clicking sound then it is likely a CV joint problem
I have a 2000 kia spectra also and went to replace the CV axel and now having major issues with tranny. The spider gear in which the cv goes through has drop into the trans and cv wont install. I dont understand how the gear just fell into the trans, but it did and Cv wont go in and I am stuck with pulling trans and taking it apart. Its a automatic. Any advise would be great.
best of taking it to a mechanic
It is the CV joint within the axle. I would replace it with the entire axle assembly. To save money I would buy a good used axle then bring it to a local garage.
