RIGHT SIDE OF ENGINE NEAR CRANK PULLY
Both the CAM and Crank sensor are on the front of engine. The cam semsor is to the right and held in with two smaller screws. It is actually a sealed Hall Sensor device but pretty easy to change.
On a 1997 Buick Riviera, the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is typically located on the transmission. It's usually mounted on the side of the transmission case, near the output shaft. To access it, you may need to lift the vehicle and remove any components obstructing the sensor. If you're unsure, consulting the vehicle's service manual can provide specific details and diagrams.
The symptom will be no spark. If the problem with the camshaft sensor is intermittent, the engine may stall from time to time. If the failure is "solid," the engine will not start. A pulse from this sensor is required for the engine to run.
Crank shaft sensor need replaced or cam shaft sensor
check your cam shaft sensor
Cam shaft sensor is located under the power steering pump on the block
I believe it is the "key way" that lines up the balancer on the shaft.
The Buick that was supercharged was called the Ultra. On the engine there is another unit mounted on top of the engine. It is driven by a separate belt from the drive shaft. The engine without the supercharger has only one serpentine belt.
under the crank pulley, right side of car under front of engine
It might be your module, because I too have a 95 Buick Riviera Supercharger, and I just recently replaced my battery, alternator, starter and other misc items. I was driving my car one day and it died, and would not start. I ended up getting the car towed, and my mechanic ran a few test, then he hooked up a used module, and the car started fine. My car was cranking and turning over, it just wasn't starting. You might want to also have your fuel pumped checked, as well as your crank shaft and sensor. Hopefully this helps.
The camshaft sensor is behind the water pump pulley and the crank sensor is mounted just above the crank pulley(dynamic balancer). If the crank sensor is bad . The car will simply DIE. If the cam sensor is bad it will simply not have sequential injector firing and driveability and MPG will be affected.BOBAnswerwhen the water pump pulley is removed you can see a sensor with 3 wires going to it at the top side of the crank shaft pulley. you might be able to see it with a flashlight and a mirror without removing anything. hope that's the right sensor.
It is mounted on the throttle shaft usually on the other side from the throttle cables. It has a three wire connector plugged into it.
