It is the round connector, with a cover over it, about 6 inches left of and about at the same level as the hitch receiver.
It plugs into the taillight.

* Remove the rear inside trunk finishing panel to access the taillight housing mounting nuts * Free the grommet for the taillight electrical harness and the three taillight housing nuts then pull off the taillight housing * Rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise and pull it out of the taillight housing * To remove the bulb from the socket pull it straight out.To install a new bulb in the socket push it straight into the socket until it stops

It sounds as if you either don't have a wiring harness attached to your vehicle, or else you will need to get an adapter. All the plugs and sockets are different, depending on who made it, and how many connectors each one has.
remove the 2 bolts/screws attaching the lens to the bed, after that unplug the harness and your done

You have a live wire shorting out in the signal circuit. Check the wire harness for damage.
