the fuel filter on a 79 bug convertible is under the front end by the axle and a 79 rabbit convertible fuel filter is in the engine compartment on the driver's side fender by the battery. be careful about sparks in the area. There SHOULD be two filters on a 75-79 (fuel injected) Beetle. Volkswagen only gives you one, but you need two. Make sure neither one is in the engine compartment. The first one is as the first respondent said: under the front of the car near the axle. The other one goes in the back of the car, somewhere near the transmission. Make sure you use Volkswagen Fuel Injection filters, and not the inexpensive clear ones the carb guys get to use. A fuel injected car's fuel pressure will blow a carb filter apart. Oh yeah...you carb guys? The fuel filters they use on lawn tractors are exactly like the ones we use on our Beetles, so if you can't find a filter in an auto parts store, just go to Home Depot or Lowe's.
Above the gas tank
It's at the carburetor.
In the carburetor.
Carb.? Should be in the fuel inlet line at the carb.
You don't have a serviceable fuel filter, it is integrated into the fuel pump assembly inside the fuel tank.
On my 79 Fuel Injected Beetle the oil filter is a screen located underneath the engine.
i have a 1979 grand prix and my fuel filter is located in my carberator so that should be a good place to look.
The fuel filter for that model and year is found in the carburetor. Follow up the fuel line from the fuel pump and you will find a large nut fitting that the line threads into. Remove this and you will find a cartridge filter.
There is no fuel filter located in line. The only fuel filter is located in the fuel tank.
The fuel filter is located near the rear of the vehicle, forward of the fuel tank.
scewed in front of carb, the as line hooks into it.
I was told the fuel filter is located in the fuel pump which is located in the fuel tank.
