I'm not sure about the '96 but on a '95 4Liter v-6 it is under the vehicle on the driver side behind the front wheel. It is a metal clyander attached to the metal fuel lines. On the drivers side on the inner side of the frame just about straight down the drivers side post. Also, watch out the filter is under is under pressure when you unclip the retainer clips gas will squirt out. Save the old clips them if you break your new one putting it back the old will work. The fuel canister is about three inches in diameter and about 4 inches long. jC
