The fuse box for a Dodge Dakota 2005 and later years is located under the hood. As you face the engine, look to the right side (Driver's side). You will see a large bulky L-shaped cover adjacent to the battery between the quarter panel and the brake fluid spout. There is an easy finger screw in the center top of the cover. Turn this screw counter-clockwise to lift and remove the cover. The underside of the cover has the fuse diagram indicating the location of each numbered fuse or cluster by the accessory name of the fuse. After you find the fuse location (example: #59 = HVAC fuse), remove the flat plactic fuse gently (I use needle nose pliers) by pulling straight up. Inspect the fuse to see if the metal arc inside the fuse is burned/melted away (which disconnects the power just as if you pulled the plug on a toaster). Replace the damaged fuse with the same amperage fuse you are discarding (10 for 10, 20 for 20, etc.). By the way, in addition to flat fuses there are large cube-shaped cluster fuses which may come out using your fingers or gently pry them out with a screwdriver (stay clear of the battery). The amperage for simple fuses is also color-coded. Your vehicle should have spare fuses in the fuse box, as indicated by SPARE on the diagram (again, be sure its the same amperage). This saves a trip to the car parts store. This is the simplest scenario for correcting the problem.
A irksome fact occurs sometimes when a fuse 'looks' good because it does not appear melted, but it has actually failed anyway. In such a case, replace it with a new fuse anyway just to be sure. Return the dust cover over the fuses and screw it down securely. Padre Raphael
