A Pennsylvania coal miner named Michael DeMarino invented the turn signal in the basement of his home. A father of 16 Michael never found the time to officially patent the idea. It is said that one of his youngest children fell into their 4 person outhouse the same day the first prototype was tested thus causing the invention's success to be temporarily overlooked & eventually brought to the public by other sources.
The first patent for automobile turn signals was granted in 1925 (some sources say 1929--it may depend on your interpretation of the claims on the different patents). Electric turn signals first appeared on production cars in 1938.
Buick was the first American car company to offer flashing turn signals in 1939.
so the cars can get passed and not having to turn around
Sounds like the Turn signal flasher is bad. On those cars there are 2 flashers, 1 for hazards and 1 for turn signals. Most of them were a #552 flasher. A 1.25 inch round silver or gray or yellow object located in the fusebox of those good ol cars.
You probably have a bad turn signal flasher (or relay, as it's called in some cars)
yes...all cars have em'....nice open ened question! I concur.
Blown fuse or bad flasher unit. Often, cars use different flasher for the turn signals and the flasher, so it is possible for the hazards to work and not the turn signals.
No, they do not have traditional turn signals but have flashing lights.
my turn signals do not work in my 1992 Pontiac Firebird
Yes, definitely. This is very important, not only so that cars behind you know that you are switching lanes, but also the cars in the neighboring lane will know you are switching lanes.
No, cars were invented at the end of the 1800s
No, but the turn signal relay has a direct effect on the turn signals.
