Usually belts shred due to 1) bad or seized Power Steering pump or belt tensioner
2) Mis-Aligned pulleys or belt tensioner.
3) gremlins (or maybe nicked the belt during other repairs and it wore badly)
just happened to me and I replaced tensioner as mine had seized. it started making horrible squealing sounds after the repair. I replaced the pump and all was well after that.
This year Mazda protege does not have a serpentine belt. It has two belts, one for the alternator/water pump, and the other for the power steering and a/c.
I just replaced my fan belts on a 2002 Mazda Protege. It came out to a little over $200. I took my car to a Mazda dealership.
AC, alternator, power steering, and timing belts.
No, it has motorized seat belts. The 1994 Protege is essentially the same car as the 1990 Protege, which is an economy car that cost about $10,000 new.
No
Cost for me was 120, but that is the high end. One thing to be sure of is to take it to a Mazda garage. Mazda protege's have been known to hate non-mazda belts and cause high pitched squealing after replacement.
Loosen the alternator bolt and lean it forward to relief the tension there. Find the lock bolt on the front end of the assembly (just follow the belts) and you need to unscrew the locking bolt and then unscrew the tensioniner....it's near impossible to explain this without pictures.
You must remove both drive belts the one that connects to the power steering and the one to the alternator. the alternator has three bolts - one long one pointing towards the back of the car - one of the left side of the alternator - and one on the right side towards the bottom of the alternator (youll have to get underneath the car to get to it) unsrew all of them and it should drop
To replace the alternator on a 1993 Mazda MX-3, start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for safety. Remove any components obstructing access to the alternator, such as the air intake duct or belts. Unbolt the alternator from its mounting bracket, disconnect the electrical connectors, and carefully remove it. Install the new alternator by reversing the steps, ensuring all connections are secure and the belts are properly tensioned before reconnecting the battery.
I was looking at the Gates website ( they make timing belts etc. ) and for the 1600 cc engine in a 2003 Mazda Protege ( Canada ) it shows ( 60,000 miles )
how many belts are in mazda 626
Its located on the passenger side near the bottom, you can see it from the top if you follow the belts on the side of the engine...
