The antilock system is completely independent of the base brakes. The pads have nothing to do with the antilock sensors. You most likely have a broken wire at one of the two front wheel speed sensors, or a wheel bearing failure. You should have the ABS system checked for codes to find out which wheel is setting the code. If you have access to an Ohm meter, each wheel speed sensor/hub bearing assy should have around 1000 ohms of resistance through them with no continuity to ground. If they short to ground, they will set a code. If the resistance is too high, they will set a code. If the hub bearing is worn and the wheel is loose and wobbling, the sensor will not read a valid reading and will set a code. Russtech67

How do you know if you vehicle is equipped with antilock brakes?

You can determine if your vehicle is equipped with antilock brakes (ABS) by checking for a specific warning light on the dashboard that illuminates when you start the engine. Additionally, you can look for an ABS logo, usually found on the brake pedal or near the driver's seat. Reviewing your owner's manual or the vehicle specifications can also confirm the presence of ABS. Lastly, you can consult the manufacturer’s website or contact a dealership for detailed information about your vehicle's features.

How do you extinguish brake service indicator after pads replaced?

The vehicle does not monitor the amount of brake life you have left nor does the red BRAKE warning light indicate that pads and rotor need replacement. The red BRAKE warning indicator is meant to warn you when there is a dangerous hydraulic problem with your braking system. Take the vehicle to a professional, who know how to service an automotive braking system. On a vehicle with brake pad wear sensors, if the sensors are new, then you have a broken wire.

What does it mean when ABS light on dash is lit on 1997 Ford F-150?

This warning lamp means your antilock brake system has detected a fault. When this happens, the ABS system logs one or more fault codes that correspond to the problem and turns on the ABS warning light. In most cases, it also temporarily DISABLES your ABS system. You vehicle should still brake and stop normally, but it will NOT have antilock braking when making a sudden panic stop or braking on wet or slick surfaces. You can continue driving, but you should have the problem diagnosed and repaired at your earliest convenience. NOTE: If the Brake Warning light is also on, it may indicate a serious hydraulic problem with the brake system. Your vehicle may NOT be safe to drive (see the info on Brake Warning Light above).

It means that your Antilock Brake System is not working. The ABS system works when the system senses that the vehicle is going to go into a skid. While you hold your foot down on the brake pedal, the ABS system pumps the pedal to keep the vehicle straight while stopping. Chances are that you have a bad wheel sensor.
