Petroleum is the same exact thing as Fuel. A Barrel of oil is about 50 Gallons of fuel ( Approx.) 23 Gallons out of the Barrel is going towards your car. Demand is what is keeping the price very high.

Actually here in the U.S. Fuel oil is more expensive than gasoline(petrol). And it is seasonal depending on supply and demand.

Why diesel gives more milage than petrol and petrol car costly than diesel?

Diesel engines are more efficient and do use less fuel, but they do not cost less than a petrol engine, they cost more. Diesel fuel also costs more. A diesel engine will however last longer.

Is a diesel vehicle more economical than petrol vehicle?

Yes, they will use less fuel but the fuel they use is more costly. A diesel vehicle also costs more than the same vehicle equipped with a petrol engine.

Does petrol or diesel cost more?

diesel is usually more expensive but diesel cars usually have more mpg than petrol cars

Why does a petrol engine have more power than a diesel engine?

A petrol engine revs higher, which allows it to burn more fuel and output more power.

What has more fuel energy petrol or diesel?

Gasoline has more energy per lb than Diesel.

Why is diesel cheaper than petrol?

cost of refining the crude oil ofcourse... In the UK diesel is more expensive than normal unleaded petrol.

Why is petrol more efficient than ethanol?

Petrol is more efficient as a fuel than ethanol, because the energy generated by burning a fuel is primarily released by formation of bonds between oxygen and carbon or hydrogen. One such bond already exists in an ethanol molecule, whereas in petrol few or no such bonds exist.

Why does the petrol fraction have a lower viscosity than the fuel oil fraction?

Petrol has a lower viscosity than fuel oil because petrol is a more refined product consisting of lighter hydrocarbons, while fuel oil contains heavier hydrocarbons and impurities. The lighter hydrocarbons in petrol flow more easily due to weaker intermolecular forces, resulting in lower viscosity compared to the heavier hydrocarbons in fuel oil.

Why petrol engines are faster than diesel engines?

Petrol engines are widely considered to be the most efficient of engines, because they are more refined than diesel. Since diesel is not completely refined, it cannot completely combust and so does not (in theory) produce as much energy per litre of fuel as a petrol engine. However, some diesel engines can be made to be much more efficient than petrol engines because they have a different type of fuel, and burn it in a different way. Is methanol more effective than petrol?

It depends on what you're trying to do with it. It produces fewer BTUs of heat than petrol does, so your fuel economy will be lower if you're using it as a motor fuel. Its flash point is higher than petrol's so it is safer to use as a solvent. If you want to make plastics, it's a different story: several plastics are made out of methanol, and none from petrol.

Is the petrol engine is costly thab diesel engine?

No, diesel engines cost more to build than petrol engines. They are built much heavier.
