I had the same problem, the worn out tensioner belt pulley was never replaced and although everything seemed fine for several miles, the timing belt would walk off gears. Check all pulleys and bearings associated with the timing belt. This is a real chore so don't have your car serviced by mechanics who may be too busy to replace all parts contained in the replacement kit. A full timing belt replacement kit is very important with this vehicle.

The Crankshaft Position Sensor senses it's position from a toothed timing ring behind the Crankshaft pulley. The CKP is above and to the left of the crankshaft pulley.

You have to remove the timing belt and the crankshaft pulley if you want to get access to the oil pump. The oil pump itself is just behind the crankshaft pulley.

The timing marks are located on the lower section of the timing belt cover above the crankshaft pulley. The mark is on the crankshaft pulley. The timing cannot be adjusted on the 3.2L engines. The timing is computer controlled by the ecm wich receives a signal from the crankshaft position sensor. The timing marks for the timing belt are on the camshaft pulleys ( aligned with dots on the front of the metal rear piece of the timing chain cover) and the lip behind the crankshaft timing belt pulley. It is a half circle slot that you align with a horizontal line on the oil pump at about 3 oclock ( right hand side ).
