have you checked your fuel pressure because gm products have been suspect to fuel pump failures for a long time if fuel pressure is ok than I would look at a possible cranck sensor. But it could still be alot of other things more info would help
No. If the alternator is working fine, the battery power is not used.
yes if the alternator isnt charging the battery correctly then it couldnt be sending ecu false signals when my alternator was playing up , my central locking my hazards interior light and rear wiper stopped working
It means the electrical system is not working correctly. The most common fault is a broken alternator drive belt.
They normally last longer than that.... assuming your alternator is working correctly, and that you're using it as intended and not as, say, a marine battery, which will dramatically shorten its life.
It doesn't actually drain the battery, but without a working alternator to recharge the battery it will only discharge as the car is operated.
nearly 12v when running means your battery is not getting charged.. it should be just shy of 14v when the alternator is working correctly
The alternator is here to give power to / recharge the battery while the engine is running. the alternator, when wired correctly isn't charging with the engine running, then you can tell it is not working anymore. how to know : ideally you'll need a volt meter to controle voltage on the battery +/- plug while engine is doing ~1200rev. bit more elaborated : follow the + cable from the battery to the alternator connection, then with the engine running mesure voltage between the alternator connection and any negative ( - ) spot that you are 100% sure of (i.e. the head of a bolt screw onto the car) a good alternator will give you a reading around 14 for a 12V system (most popular) What happen when the alternator is not working properly : Your battery keeps on diying.
Depends on how low the battery is but give it 10-15 minutes and it will be fully charged, assuming the alternator is working properly.
The first thing that I would check out is if the alternator is working correctly. If you put a meter on the battery posts you should see a DC voltage of aprox. 12.5-15. If you see lower than this then your alternator is not charging the battery correctly and will cause dimming and then cause a dead battery. If this is good then look for corroded contacts on battery cables and the starter, or silinoid. I hope this helps you a little bit.
alternator is not working so your battery isn't getting a charge
If the battery and alternator are good and the charging system is not working, then you either have loose or corroded wiring or the drive belt is slipping.
Most likely your alternator is not working properly.
