The solenoid will sometimes buzz or click if it isn't receiving enough current to turn the starter. The failing battery could be a cause. This can be checked at any auto parts store. If you can jump the truck and drive it down, they can check it right in the parking lot. Otherwise, you'll have to remove it. The second thing it could be (and this actually happened to me) is that it could be a bad cable. There is a positive cable that is about 12 inches long that runs from the positive terminal of the battery over to the solenoid on the fender. You might try cleaning it or trying to make better contact with the battery. In my case, I had to replace it completely which cost me all of $5. The solenoid itself is a potential cause which runs about $25 in any discount auto store. It takes only a few minutes to replace and if it doesn't work, most stores will accept it back for a refund. Lastly, it could be the starter but it is unlikely. The reason most solenoids buzz or click is because they aren't receiving enough juice from the battery to start with. If you have a bad alternator (also can be checked at any auto parts store) it might not be charging your battery. Or the battery might be bad (happens alot in severely cold and hot weather). Or terminal connections or bad and/or corroded cables.
If the 1996 Olds Aurora will not start and there is a clicking noise from under the front panel, check the starter. The clicking noise is probably from the starter solenoid.
clicking noise when u turn the key to start is either a bad battery or bad battery connection or the starter needs replacing rule out the solenoid, as the clicking you can hear comes from the solenoid
check your battery then the connections if it still wont start try changing the starter solenoid if possible
If the Chrysler is only making a clicking noise and will not start, check the starter. Also check the alternator, and the battery. The starter solenoid is more than likely the reason the car is clicking and not starting.
Check the starter solenoid, starter ground resistance, and voltage out of thesolenoid when activated. If the solenoid is not clicking then the issue is either the relay or the fuse to the solenoid.
Does the engine turn over and then make the clicking noise while trying to start, or does it not do anything but make the clicking noise when you turn the key. If its not turning over at all then it might be a battery problem, Try cleaning the battery terminals, and/or charge the battery, Could also be the starter solenoid, but start with the battery first.
Probably it's a low battery, though it could be a bad starter. You are probably hearing the starter solenoid clicking.
Weak battery? Loose or corroded battery cables? Starter solenoid?
The clicking noise you can hear is the starter solenoid clicking into place. If the starter motor does not turn the engine immediately, it is probably the best place to look. it sounds like the starter motor is faulty.
if it does not turn over and no clicking noise but headlights on, check start fuse and relay if it doesnt turn over and clicks probable starter solenoid
My past experience has been that a "clicking noise" meant that the battery was too discharged to power the starter solenoid much less run the starter motor. You might try charging the battery.
Why is your 1993 Altima Nissan making a clicking noise but does not start?
