Brown fluid = burnt fluid (either dark brown or black in color) . In the early stages of slipping, a burnt smell will be the first noticeable indication.
The fluid is in the transmission is low or it needs to be changed. Check the fluid level and see if is full or if it brown and burnt smelling.
Low transmission fluid and/or fluid leak.
IT's low on transmission fluid. CHECK FLUID LEVEL.
Transmission fluid, like in automatic transmissions of cars, is used to transfer the power of the engine to the drive shaft. It's a hydraulic fluid, and the transmission is a hydraulic pump and a hydraulic drive all in one. The motor drives the pump (the torque converter), and it compresses the transmission fluid which in turn drives the clutch assembly.
You may have too little transmission fluid in your car which makes the transmission stop working when you turn and the fluid goes to the outside of the turn. Stopping lets the fluid run back down to the rest of the transmission so it can work again. You should have someone check the fluid level. If it's down, be sure to add the right type as listed in your owner's manual. Do not overfill it! More isn't better and might make the problem even worse.
No it is a totally different fluid. It can sometimes be used as power steering fluid in a pinch. I would strongly advises you not to try it. The viscosity is different and it won't flow thru the lines properly. This will in turn cause your brakes to fail.
The oil normally turns brown with age. It can also turn brown with internal failures.
FYI Manufactures have stopped putting dip sticks on some transmissions so that do-it-yourselfers cant add the wrong transmission fluid to the transmission. If you mix different transmission fluids the chemical reactions can change the viscosity of the fluid and turn it to sludge.
yes
To change the transmission fluid in a 2009 Dodge Journey, start by warming up the engine to thin the fluid, then turn it off and allow it to cool slightly. Remove the transmission fluid pan by unscrewing the bolts, letting the old fluid drain into a container. Replace the transmission filter if necessary, clean the pan, and then reinstall it with a new gasket. Finally, refill the transmission with the appropriate type and amount of new fluid through the dipstick tube.
To change transmission fluid on a Acura 3.2 TL you must first check the existing fluid level when the transmission is hot which takes 15 to 20 minutes of driving. Next you will need to dip the dipstick in the transmission fluid to check the level which should be between the third and second level of the dipstick. Use a funnel to add transmission fluid if necessary. Next start the engine and shift into each position and then apply the parking break and turn the engine off. Recheck the transmission fluid and add more if necessary.
Hyundai runs their transmissions too hot by 10-15 degrees. The oil burns as a matter of course, usually within the first 20,000 miles of an ATF change. The only real cure is an aftermarket ATF cooler.
