It should not. A U-Joint that is worn will make a knocking sound when it starts or reverses.
If it is a front wheel drive vehicle it could be a bad CV joint. In a rear wheel drive car it could be a bad universal joint.
Could be a universal joint. If front wheel drive, it could be the constant velocity joint. I am assuming you have an automatic transmission. If it is a standard transmission, it could be the throwout bearing.
You most likely have a bad universal joint. This universal joint is located in the drive line of the vehicle and needs replaced as soon as possible.
it could be a bad universal joint.
cv joint or universal joint
Rear wheel drive: Possibly a worn universal joint on the drive shaft. Front wheel drive: possibly worn CV joints on the front drive shafts.
Typical U-Joint noise. Makes noise in reverse but not in drive. Check both front and rear U-joints of the drive shaft. If one is bad replace both. You do not want to go through R&R of the drive shaft twice.
If it's a clunk sound, check universal joint bearings and drive shaft bolts. Otherwise please describe noise.
Check your universal joints!
Could be a universal joint going bad.
Sounds Like You Have a Bad Universal Joint In The Drive Shaft. Also somewhere in the drive trane there is a lack of Grease. Have it serviced and greased, but first have the universal joints checked and replaced if they are bad. Also check all Steering parts, and replaced if needed. Good Luck
On a front wheel drive car I would suspect bad CV joints. On a rear wheel drive car I would suspect a bad universal joint. Have a mechanic look at it right away.
