hard question but honestly yes and no yes all for tires provide better traction but on a large sheet of ice it also means 4 tires spinning you out of control and the spinning in circle of a vechile that's has its rear wheels lock will move and twist the axle joint but it is usally rare you would need a large sheet off ice not just patches for this to even remotely happen on snow yes they or a big help but don't forget it puts a strain on the transmission the longer you drive this way so lock them only when you need it and unlock as soon as u don't also with rising gas prices you might want to know it does drain gas a little faster sorry not a easy question depends on the situation i guess

The differential is essentially one link in the chain of components that transmit power from a car or truck's engine to the wheels.
