Wiring a hitch for a Mitsubishi Outlander?

When I contacted Mitsubishi directly and consulted a local hitch installation center for when I installed a hitch on my 2006 Outlander, I was recommended buying an adapter kit that simply plugs inline with you tail lights called a T-connector adapter. I was also recommended a inline booster, the hitch installation center warned me that some vehicles 2000 and newer may not have strong enough insulation on the wires to handle the extra load on them and the booster puts a minimal load on the wiring harness.
