Not likely, unless the dirt restricted movement of the arm it was trying to protect and thereby causing the Power Steering hydraulic line to have a strain on it.

A lot of power steering leaks are caused by turning the steering all the way to the right or left as far as you can and the hydraulic pressure is not regulated well at the end point of travel, full pressure applied against a stop, something has to give often the hose will burst or at least a seal will blow. It is important to remember not to turn the steering wheel lock to lock, or hard over in a parking situation for example.
