A tapping noise when your engine warms up could indicate several potential issues, such as low oil levels or oil viscosity that is too thin, leading to insufficient lubrication of engine components. It might also be a sign of valve lifter problems, worn bearings, or other internal engine wear. If the noise persists, it’s advisable to have the engine inspected by a mechanic to prevent further damage. Regular maintenance and oil changes can help reduce the likelihood of such issues.
ck your oil level make sure it is up to the top line........................you have a clasped lifter does it quite down when it gets warm
If it is a Tapping sound it is normally a lifter. Could also be a cam, pushrod, and or a rocker arm. Tapping is normally upper motor. If it is a knocking noise it is normally in the lower motor. If the noise gets louder when warm most likely a lifter is going bad. As the oil heats it thins slightly causing more oil to bypass inside the lifter which it is not supposed to do
if your talking about a v6 noise on start up. most all 3.1 make this noise until engine gets warm. if the noise does not go away when warmed up. better check it out !
My 2000 Malibu with a 3.1 V6 is the same. A pro mechanic friend said the noise is due to one or more of the pistons having shrunk due to overheating. Once warm, the pistons enlarge with the heat, and the noise disappears. This is a design flaw with the early v6 engines. He added that it is not anything that will affect the life of the motor so long as I let it warm up before use. He cautions that heavy acceleration while the engine is cold could possibly cause a piston skirt to break. Just let it warm up and it will be fine.
Not to worry it is the valves in the engine tapping because there is not enough oil pressure yet for the fluid lifters to take up the slack in the valve train, that is why it goes away after a few minutes and also why you should always let your engine warm up before driving. a rod nock
maybe the carberator i dont know im not a machanic or anything
First check oil level. "Loud clattering" can be lifter noise you are hearing. This can indicate oil is not reaching the top of the engine or worn valve train parts. Another reason for noisy lifters could be the oil pickup is not picking up, could be clogged.
Most likely needs a tuneup done. Check the timing and change the normal tuneup part.
Diesel engines relies on heat generated by compression to ignite the fuel. When the engine is newly started the air the gets compressed also gets a little cooled by the still-cold engine block, so the ignition is a little delayed and the engine runs rougher. With a warm engine the the compressed air gets a bit warmer, so the engine fires easier and runs smoother.
Does your rover 214 have a k series engine if it does it could be a problem with your head gasket
1. One or more lifters in the valve train system may be stuck in the compressed position due to sludge or other buildup from less than optimal oil change periods. As the engine warms up the combination of heat and warm oil softens the buildup enabling the lifter to expand and remove any slack in the valve train.2. One or more lifters and the camshaft may be worn past the expansion limit of the lifters thus creating slack in the valve train. As the engine warms up the parts in the valve train, primarily the lifter and push rod expand and remove the slack. This type will eventually wear past the limits of expansion and become continuous tapping. Again this may be cause by less than optimal oil change periods. If the onset of tapping was shortly after an oil change where the engine had a "cleaning treatment" performed, the cam and lifters were probably severely damaged during the treatment. Engines with such damage may continue with little or no additional damage with proper maintenance however there is no guarantee. 3. If the tapping is very light, as opposed to the louder, heaver sound of lifters, it may be the fuel injectors. These always make some noise but as the engine reaches operating temperature the noise usually decreases to the point it is obscured buy the other noises from the engine.
yes, the engine fan need to b running whenever the engine is on the fan is to cool radiater, it only comes on when the engine gets to warm, to cool engine down.
