the problem is u have to take it to a transmission repair guy
I had a problem with the shift lock and the problem ended up being the brake solenoid. This is a brake switch that in forms the transmission that you have your foot on the brake. If you don't heat a click when you push on the brake, I would have that checked.
Might be a problem with the brake/transmission interlock switch
I had a problem shifting my suburban out of park. It ended up being the brake switch, it tells the transmission that you are pushing down the brake.
If an automatic transmission won't shift from park, it may be due to a faulty brake light switch, as most vehicles require the brake pedal to be pressed to shift out of park. Another possibility is a problem with the shift interlock system, which prevents shifting without engaging the brake. Additionally, low transmission fluid levels or issues with the transmission itself could be contributing factors. Checking these components can help diagnose and resolve the issue.
Transmission problem, you have to replace or get it repaired.
If pressing the brake pedal does not allow a 2002 VW Beetle to shift there a problem with the brake switch. The switch acts as a safety when shifting a vehicle and if it malfunctions the transmission will not be able to shift out of park.
The main problem with any vehicle that will not shift out of gear deals with the transmission. This is a problem where the transmission may need to be replaced to fix it.
There are multitude of things that will cause this, all depending on variables. If the transmission is manual, the the shift fork could be bent or jammed. If you are trying to shift with the engine running, then the clutch may not be disengaging. The shift linkage could also be binding or in need of lubrication. If it's an automatic, then the problem may be electrical (if you have a newer car with an electrical transmission). With newer transmissions, the only thing you do with the "stick" is change the position of an electrical switch, which signals solenoids in the transmission to shift. Many have a brake-shift-interlock solenoid, which will not allow you to shift out of park, unless your foot is on the brake peddle. The brake-shift-interlock is usually located at the base of the shifter assembly, and if you listen closely, can be heard disengaging when the brake peddle is applied. If your automatic is an older electric or non-electric transmission, than a binding linkage or manual valve (inside the transmission's valve body) would be the place to start looking.
The shift mechanism is only allowed to move from park if and when the brake pedal is pressed. Possible causes are, faulty brake pedal switch, shift interlock solenoid, wiring, or broken shift button. Possible shift linkage or transmission problem. Find the procedure for "bypassing or overriding the shift interlock" for further diagnosis.
If a 1995 Nissan Sentra will not shift out of first, there could be a problem with the throttle valve cable. The transmission could also be damaged.
If your 2005 Mercury Mountaineer won't shift out of park, it could be due to a malfunctioning brake light switch, which prevents the shift interlock system from releasing. Additionally, a low transmission fluid level or a problem with the transmission itself might cause this issue. Check to ensure your brake lights are functioning, and if they aren't, replacing the brake light switch may resolve the problem. If the issue persists, it’s advisable to consult a mechanic for a thorough diagnosis.
Use the lever on top of the assembly to release it or shift your transmission in gear. otherwise the problem lies elsewhere as, frozen breaks. !
