The cause could be worn valve guides. As the engine cools oil can seep down through the valve guides around the valve stems and collect in the head and top of the cylinders to be burned off when the engine is started.
White smoke from the exhaust is a sign of a blown head gasket. Stop driving the car until you get this repaired. Coolant in the combustion chamber will destroy this engine in short order.
If smoke is coming from the tailpipe, then could be worn rings, burned piston or valve guides are gone. Compression test will check rings and burned piston. If from under the hood, check valve cover leaks onto the exhaust manifold.
Those are two different problems... If it's smoking in traffic, it could be from many things... If the smoke is coming from under the hood, you might have an oil leak that is dripping onto the exhaust. If it's smoking from the tailpipe, odds are, your rings / compression is gone and the oil is blowing by the rings and getting burned.
valve seals and or guides bad
Is this a trick question?? This is wat i sound lik: "why does my cars EXHAUST smell like EXHAUS?its also SMOKES at START UP... Ima leave that as that
You are probably leaking some kind of fluid on either your exhaust or your block. If i were you i would clean your engine really well then start it up and look for the wet spot. That will tell you what is leaking.
Blown head gasket or cracked head.
it smokes out the exhaust...
Considering that if you have black smoke your car is running too rich. Blueish white smoke from the exhaust means it burning oil. Depending on exactly where this white smoke is coming from it is most likely transmission fluid that is burning. A bad seal or gasket on the trans will cause it to leak. Especially when your car is hot and the tranny is shifting, this will cause more pressure on the leaks thus forcing out more fluid. This form of excessive leakage shoots out the fluid which then hits the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipe and burns up very quickly producing a thick white smoke that if your driving it seems to be coming from the tailpipe but actually is coming from the front center of the car. A good way to check is to go to a quarter car wash, spray off the bottom of the car, and any parts of the exhaust manifold or pipe. After driving for a while, and it still smokes, you should be able to see freshly burnt on stains on the exhaust system. Also don't forget to check your trans, fluid lvels. Mark H.
yes burning oil smokes if the exhaust is clogged the motor will not run so if you suspect a lot of oil in the exhaust the engine needs serviced
blown head gasket!
it's either overheating or blowing oil onto the manifold
