I had the same problem. What is happening is that the main circuit board for the instrument cluster is defective. The only way to fix the problem is to have the entire circuit board replaced.

im having the same problem, if you recently changed your CD player for an aftermarket style make sure you plugged in all the plugs behind the dash, i noticed it stays on longer after i fixed that, also might be a short somewhere. sorry i couldn't be anymore help

Are both lights out at the same time. Have you changed the bulbs and if you have they still dont work there is a relay and or fse for them in the fuse box. Check the fuse and see if it blown and check the relay and see if it clicks when you turn the lights on. If it dont click you might also have a bad switch for the lights
