An engine revs when you hold down the gas and the brakes at the same time. ~Ares
A hole or a crack in the exhaust or muffler.
If you have a "check engine" light, check for codes. Also check for vacuum leaks.
you can bugger your gas pedal up, if u dont change gears in time u can blow your engine, if you hit some1 then theres a very high percentage of them dying, so my advice is dont speed.
You have a serious problem. I may be easy and cheap to repair up to complete engine replacement. It will need to be diagnosed by a knowledgeable person.
Cars with high full economy are usually under powered. The car's computer limits the amount of gas the engine can get by changing the amount of time the fuel injectors spray. They do this also to reduce emissions. With older cars, what you did with your right foot, the engine did, because there was a physical connection between the gas pedal and the throttle. Today's cars use a system called "drive by wire," which means that when you hit the gas, your sending an electrical signal to the computer, which sends a signal to the throttle plate to open. This system allows the computer to monitor and control the engine, but it causes a delay from the time you hit the pedal and the time the engine revs.
ignition system has a built-in rev limiter to prevent engine damage. when engine rpm's hit the max setting it will mis-fire to prevent further revs
Your engine produces torque(turning power) and revs, and these are related. You can't get more than a certain amount of torque out of the engine at a given number of revs. If you hit a slope in the wrong gear/at the wrong speed, then forcing the car forward will require more torque than the engine can deliver, and it will stall. It's very much like trying to ride a bike uphill in the wrong gear.
it does that because it has either jumped time or ....jumped time ! :) :)
Sounds like the tranny, the cat would slow the revs as it is essentially choking the exhaust output. Is there a code in the OBD II autozone will scan for free!
You may have an exhaust leak very close to the engine.
You have it in the manual setting, and that is a 1 for 1st gear. need to put it back into automatic or hit to the right for 2,3,4 gears
check your fuel pump and or filter
