The Laser Lance is down in the metal flowers under your ship's landing platform. Drop down to the right when you arrive on the Jungle Planet and you will find the Lance sitting in a narrow spotlight. To climb back up, head left to the lowest "flower" and let it throw you upward to the next higher one, and so forth back to the ship. Then head right to encounter Sir Cador, Pegasus the flying unicorn, and the Phoenix Birds.
