She was born in 1867 in Wisconsin, her family moved to various locations in the Midwest, and she eventually settled in Missouri. Her experiences during this time inspired her "Little House on the Prairie" book series.
She was an accomplished farmswoman; her husband known for saying he would rather have her help him on the farm than any man. She was renowned for raising poultry; her chickens laid eggs all year round. She also was a good cook and excellent with monetary figures.
Laura Ingalls Wilder will be remembered for her "Little House" books, one of the major contributions to children's literature in the 20th century. Since the initial publication of "Little House in the Big Woods" in 1931, the books have never been out of print.
