I wold not say they were better, in fact, the Saxon warriors are probably far superior. But in The Battle of Hastings, the reason why the Normans probably won was due to the fact that the Saxon army had just marched from Stamford Bridge in the north after defeating the Vikings and Harold Haldrada, all the way to Hastings in the far south. I also think the Saxons loss is attributed to the Normans new weapon brought to the table, the crossbow.
