NO! You NEVER mix refrigerants.
There should be a fitting with a screw top on it somewhere in the AC hose in the engine compartment. Use R134A, not R12
It contains no R12 Freon. Freon has not been used for years.
1992 was the first year for 134a. To be sure on your car there should be a sticker underneath the hood on the top/front of the engine compartment stating the freon type. Another easy way, check the A/C pressure connectors is in the engine compartment. R12 connectors are screw on connectors. R134a connectores have screw on caps, but the actual hose connectors under the caps are snap on (the cap screws into the center of the connectors, not the outside). Your local autoparts store will have R134a refill kits, look at the connector on the can. Autozone employees will go outside and look under your hood and tell you. If you are changing the compressor and dryer, then refilling the compressor with R134a oil and using R134a is easy, for a trained professional, and the seals will be fine. NOTE : It is illegal for anyone to purposefully vent R12 into the atmosphere. If the compressor hasn't failed and you are needing to simply add a small amount of R12 to get the system working again you should consider searching online for Freeze12 or other R12 substitutes and top it off with an organic replacement for R12, as you can not drain the R12 system without a refrigerant recovery system, which start at $500. You can not mix R12 and R134a. A complete system failure is guaranteed if you try.
You can find the 1997 Mercury Cougar low pressure port on top of the air conditioner compressor. The low pressure port will have a blue top.
You add freon to the low side fitting, top front,on the ac compressor
If it's an auto, there are 2 ports on the lines. One high, one low. Just get a can of r12 & plug into the little valves. Some come with a guage.
The 2000 Chevrolet Silverado truck has two ports on top of the air conditioner compressor. You will add Freon through the low pressure port.
2.5 pound or at least that's what my 1990 Chevrolet k1500 says it takes you might can look on the sticker on top of the silverish cylinder at the top left under the hood.
The low pressure port is the same place that you add Freon to your air conditioning system. The low pressure port will have a blue top.
You can add Freon to your 2001 Buick Century air conditioning system through the low pressure port. The low pressure port can be found on the top of the air conditioner compressor.
r12 is history your model and year take 134a freon, not sure on capacity there is a tag under the hood,on the top of the radiator support or by the passenger side firewall on the ac evaporator box, if you have dual a/c front and rear it takes more freon then a single zone unit my guess about 2 pounds give or take a once. some auto parts stores will have a listing for your car
You can, i have a 1992 Chevy caprice classic. And the problem is that the system uses R12 freon which was discontinued by the EPA in the late 90's because it destroys the ozone layer when it leeks out. You can pay a fortune on eBay and get some old re fill cans. I used this stuff called freeze 12. it works with the existing r12 freon, you just have to purchase an adapter and a single refill (recharge) kit from there website. You screw the new top on top of the low pressure ac line (low pressure is always the smaller port on the line). Then connect the can and add the amount required. This varies by car but just watch the gauge on the freeze12 can top and you will be fine.
