To replace the fuel pump on a 1988 Chevy 305, first, disconnect the negative battery cable and relieve fuel system pressure. Next, remove the fuel tank by unbolting it and disconnecting the fuel lines and electrical connectors. Once the tank is removed, access the fuel pump, detach it from the fuel sender assembly, and install the new pump. Finally, reassemble everything in reverse order, ensuring all connections are secure before reconnecting the battery.
broken fuel pump/ fuel filter can cause car to die right after starting. If the fuel pump is not pumping fuel into the engine, the car will stall.
you need to drop the fuel tank, since this is where the pump is. once the tank is down you can see the lock ring. remove and remove pump. be sure to replace strainer too.
pull the gas tank down and it's inside the tank.
