The easiest way is to look at the Harmonic Balancer. The 305 has a wider thicker balancer than the 350. Pus the timing tab on a 305 is located ON the timing cover and the 350 is bolted on the with the cover bolts. Riky9
YOU CAN EITHER TELL BY THE HARMONIC BALANCER THE 350 IS THICKER THAN THE 305 OR YOU CAN TELL BY LOOKING ON THE BLOCK ON THE FRONT OF THE PASS SIDE HEAD THERE IS A FLAT SPOT ON THE BLOCK THERE SHOULD BE SOME NUMBERS AND LETTERS FIND THE LETTERS AND CALL A PARTS STORE
Not usually. The balancer is specific to the engine as it counterbalances the rotating internal parts. Hope this helps.
the harmonic balancer on the 350 is about 10 inches in diameter compared to a 305 it has about 8 inch diameter on the harmonic balancer
it all depends on what year and apllication my 85 was the same according to napa
The harminoc balancer. The 305 balancer is thin and the 350 is thicker and heaver.
The harmonic balancer and flexplate are externally balanced on the 400, meaning the balancer isn't smooth and consistent all the way around. The flexplate for the 400 has a balancing weight welded to it. The 350 is internally balanced and has the typical smooth balancer and unbalanced flexplate.
No, a 350 harmonic balancer will not work on a 4.3L V6 because they have different specifications such as size, weight, and balance. Using the wrong harmonic balancer can cause vibrations, premature wear on engine components, and potential engine damage. It is important to use the correct harmonic balancer for your specific engine.
It should be 8 inch
