To determine if your BMW has a timing chain, you'll need to check the specific model and engine type, as BMW uses both timing belts and timing chains in different models. Generally, many newer BMW engines, particularly those from the N series, are equipped with timing chains that are designed to last the life of the engine. However, older models or certain engines may have timing belts that require replacement at regular intervals. Consulting your owner’s manual or a BMW service professional can provide definitive information for your specific vehicle.

Timing chains are designed to normally last the life of the engine and are replaced when the engine is rebuilt.
