A failed head gasket will have different symptoms depending on where the gasket failed. If the gasket fails in such a way that coolant leaks it usually leaks into the oil reservoir and the oil will appear a milky light tan color. The coolant also may leak out of the gasket onto the engine, appearing between the head and the block. If the gasket leaks in such a way as to cause loss of compression the engine will idle rough or will not want to idle at all. If the gasket leaks oil it may end up in the cylinder(s) or come out between the head and the block. Also, any combination of the above described leaks may happen in conjuction with one another.
Head or head gasket leak
You possibly have a leak in the cylinder head gasket. You possibly have a leak in the head gasket.
Spray carb cleaner at the gasket. If you hear a change in engine noise or engine speed, you have what is called a vacuum leak.
cracked head or bad gasket
You should replace the head gasket. This repair is critical to the better performance of the vehicle, and to prevent future damage of the engine.
Yes it can. Depending on the location of the oilways and the design of the head, oil can leak into a cylinder bore or out and down the side of the engine.
yes, especially if the leak is causing coolant to leak, you can run out of coolant. then overheat.
Other than a leak, a blown head gasket. Very serious, so stop driving until this is repaired if you suspect a blown head gasket. usually not....the engine will start, but will run rough and/or overheat
If it is leaking from a bad head gasket, it is because of a bad head gasket. If it is leaking from a bad intake manifold gasket, it is because of a bad intake manifold gasket.
It's probably a head gasket problem.
