Depends on the Porsche you are referring too.
Assuming we are only talking about 911s there is a different method depending on if the car is air cooled, early water cooled, or late water cooled.
Air cooled 911s (including 964 and 993) should have the oil warmed to operating temperature before checking the oil level. Park the car on a level service and with the engine runningcheck the level after the engine has been at idle for at least 30 seconds to allow the oil level to stabilize.
On the early water cooled 911s (type 996) oil level is checked with the engine warm but it is not checked with the engine running. The exception is the 996TT which is checked via the computer with the on dash display.
The later water cooled 911s (type 997) are checked via the computer using the on dash display.
A 1980 Porsche 911 SC with a 3.0L flat six motor holds about 11 quarts of oil. I would use a nice 20/50 oil. Make sure to check your oil only after your engine is up to operating temp and the engine is running. Don't check it while the engine is cold and off... Roughly nine quarts. Be sure to wait for the ten minute countdown to complete after first starting the car to check the oil level on your dipstick. Porsche Technician Birmingham, Alabama
The engine oil capacity for a 1997 Porsche Boxster is 9.5quarts.
I'm not sure on the weight but always check your owners manuel and always use 100% synthetic.
To check the oil level on a 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo, first ensure the car is on a level surface and the engine is warm. Turn off the engine and wait a few minutes, then locate the oil dipstick, which is typically found near the rear of the engine bay. Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it fully, and then remove it again to check the oil level. The oil level should be between the two marks on the dipstick; if it's low, add the appropriate oil type as specified in the owner's manual.
Porsche recommends using Mobile 1 oil, specifically 0W-40.
about eleven quarts. Best to start with ten, then get engine to operating temp, and check level at idle and adjust.
