Well the way you can fix it is by when the instruction scrolls by the arrow you have to change the heat right when it gets to the arrow.
I have a 2004 Ford Explorer and the heat does not work, but when i try to turn the control valve to heat it makes a clicking noise. How do i fix it?
You can try drying it with a hair blow dryer. If that does not work then heat your oven to 150 degrees and leave it in there overnight. If that does not work you will need to replace it.
The vacuum line that goes to the defroster is probably disconnected, possibly on the fire wall.
Check the heater core. It could be this or check the exhaust pipe. It could have a defect in the linkage.
It seems as if there is a problem with the wiring between your speedometer and AC/heat unit. A licensed repairman can determine and fix the cause of this problem.
