If you pulled the piston all the way out, make sure you lube the cylinder bore with brake fluid, not oil! Petroleum products will degrade some parts of the brake system.
Twist the piston as you insert it, that way you will stand less of a chance of getting it cocked in the bore. The rubber boot or dust cover may get in the way.
Bottom out the piston in the bore so it is easier to put the brake shoes on and, having done that and before you drive away, pump the brake pedal several times to fill the cylinder with brake fluid and seat the brake shoe against the rotor.
If you are putting on new brake shoes and just need to push the piston back in the bore, the best way is to use a 4 inch "C" clamp - about 10 buck at an auto parts store
To change front brake pads on a 2002 Honda Civic raise the vehicle and safely prop it up. Remove the front wheels and caliper. Take off the old pads. Decompress the caliper piston and insert the new pads.
To replace the brake pads on a 2004 Honda Civic, you'll need a few essential tools: a jack and jack stands to lift the vehicle safely, a lug wrench to remove the wheel nuts, and a socket set for detaching the brake caliper. Additionally, a c-clamp or brake caliper tool is necessary to compress the caliper piston, and a bungee cord or rope can help hold the caliper out of the way. Don't forget safety gloves and goggles for protection during the process.
the rear pistons have to be screwed in to get them back into the caliper. this is because the emergency brake is built into the caliper you can rent a caliper return tool or be careful with waterpump/channel lock pliers and turn the piston, it will start to retract into the caliper when you are done make sure the grooves in the piston are in the correct position 12 and 6 o clock as you will notice the is a pin on the inner brake pad that must seat into the piston. once job is done pull the e brake up and down 10 or more times this will return the pads back to adjustment
To replace the front brake pads on a 2003 Honda Civic Si, first, safely lift the car and remove the front wheels. Then, remove the caliper by unscrewing the bolts and slide it off the rotor. Replace the old brake pads with new ones, ensuring they are properly seated, and compress the caliper piston if necessary. Finally, reattach the caliper, replace the wheel, and lower the car before testing the brakes to ensure proper function.
To change the brake rotors on a 1991 Honda Civic raise the vehicle. Remove the wheels and brake caliper bracket. Remove the brake pads. Loosen the rotor mounting screws and replace the rotors.
screw it in turn the piston clockwise and screw it in , only for rear brakes
first try bleeding the lines, as you may have gotten air in the brake lines. second, you could take out the piston out of the brake caliper and put it back together, checking that it works.
After looking at pictures of the Honda CRV's rear brakes. A pad change appears to be a process of removing the two caliper support bolts, removing pads, turning in the caliper piston (special tool required). You may be able to use a needle nose vice grips to retract the piston. Then replace pads and any shims, fit pads and shims inside caliper housing, Clean and relubricate the caliper bolts (pins) and fit back onto rotors. I'll be doing a brake job on a 2003 Honda Crv tomorrow, and will let you know what I find
Brake light on 1994 Honda civic staying on.
You need a better question.... If its rusted to the rotor use PB Blaster to free it then replace brake pads. If the caliper piston is frozen then you need to rebuild the caliper.
If parking brake is operated through service brake--then piston is threaded into caliper body--special tool is needed (not expensive) available at Sears or auto parts
When changing rear brake pads on a 1999 Honda Civic safely raise and secure the car. Remove the wheels from both sides. Remove the caliper bracket and old pads. Replace with new pads.
