on the front of the tensioner pulley there will be an arrow than will say loosen. find the right sized socket to fit the bolt in the middle of the pulley. bigger the better for the leverage. it does have alot of tension on it. you need to turn your ratchet the dirrection of the arrow and the drive belt will loosen. slip the belt off the pulley and slowly release the pulley until it stops . there are only usually three mounting bolts on the back of the pulley frame. keep track of the size of the bolts. some may be longer than others. just reverse the order to put it back on.
belt tensioner
Pulley is pressed onto pump, you need a puller to remove.
first you should release the belt tension pully and remove the belt. Then the idler pully has a bolt through the center remove the bolt and the pully should come off.
Yes,
It should be a 16mm on the front, to release and put tension on. To remove the tensioner pulley completely, I believe the nut that holds it on from behind is a 15mm.
loosen the bolt on the tension pulley. then insert a 3/8 ratchet in the square hole on the pulley that will loosen the belt
You have to remove the fuel tank.
AnswerI have a 98 escort so I believe that they are probably similar. The top pulley where the serpentine belt is has a little square in it so that you can stick a ratchet in and turn and the tension is released. Quite simply once you find the little square. Then pull the breaker bar, or what you have inserted into the pulley, TOWARDS you to loosen the tension and then remove the serpentine belt. There should be a diagram up inside the hood to show you the way you're supposed to put a new one back on.
pretty easily. 1st draw a picture of how the old one goes on. Next find the spring loaded tension pulley and put a big wrench on it and lean. Your weight will compress to spring and the tension will come off the belt. It helps to have a second pair of hands. When the tension is off have the second pair of hands remove the old belt. weave the new belt through the pulleys and compress the tension pulley and your done.
from the inside of trunk
You need a special tool, pulley puller and installer to remove the pulley first then you remove both hose and bolts to remove the pump, then install new pump and hoses, bolts and finally install the pulley with the special tool, never try to hammer in the pulley, if you do new pump will brake
tension pullys have a small square in the side that a rachet will fit in.. they are "spring loaded" and if you put a ratchet in it you should be able to pull it back with ease and remove the belt hope this helps
