You´ll probably need to remove or at least lower the engine to get the starter motor. It´s mounted on top of the engine, between the engine and the car´s floor. The space between is real tight. In automatic transmission versions, starter motors have been mounted also without lowering the engine. Still in this case, space is real tight and some water hoses, intake manifold, air filter case and gearbox links have to remove. This could work also in manual gearbox version cars, but Mercedes´s official and many other carages use this engine lowering method for curing starter problems.
