To replace a brake pressure deactivation switch, first ensure the vehicle is safely lifted and supported. Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues, then locate the switch, typically found on the brake line or near the master cylinder. Remove the old switch by disconnecting the wiring harness and unscrewing it, then install the new switch by reversing the process. Finally, reconnect the battery and check for proper operation.

Speed control deactivation switch?

2002 and earlier Speed control deactivation is located on the brake master cylinder; its round and looks like some of the old oil pressure switces. These were recalled due to fire concerns. 2003 and later has this switch removed. The only connection on the master cylinder is a level switch. The Speed Contol Deactivation switch on the newer Expeditions has been relocated on the left side of the brake pedal and it contacts an "L" bracket on the brake pedal. This is a self-adjusting switch meaning, if you accidently press it in too far, the brake pedal will not depress the switch far enough to power the cruise control system. Nothing will work; the system thinks you are pressing the brake pedal, so it shuts down. To check this, disconnect the plug at the Cruise control servo on the driver's side fender well area. Check for 12 volts as pin #6 (should be a 6-pin plug with #6 pin being black with yellow stripe). If you have no volts with the key on or engine running, then deactivation switch is the target. If the switch plunger has been adjusted to far in, you may be able to pull the plunger out (should be about 1 to 1.5 inch stciking out), but more than likely you will break it trying. The newer switches have a knob on the back that will release the plunger when turned counter-clockwise. The plug on this switch is a 2-pin plug--if you are not getting 12 volts at pin 6 at the swervo, you can short the 2 pins of the cruise deactivation switch together and recheck for 12 voltas at pin 6, if the voltage is now there, then the deactivation switch is the problem. Either replace, or hope for the best trying to adjust it.
