It's easy, but you'll need a helper. Once you have a replacement ready to go, find a socket that fits the pulley bolt on your old one. Ensure that there is a belt routing diagram under the hood or take a couple photos or draw one before you take off the belt. Use a long handle socket wrench to pry on the pulley against spring tension using bolt to create slack in the belt. At the same time have your helper slip it off one of the top accessories with a screwdriver. Once belt is off, remove bolt that holds tensioner bracket to block. Reverse to reinstall except this time your helper will be trying to put belt over last accessory while you hold pulley. Bump the engine a few times before you start it to ensure ribs on belt backside have all fallen into their grooves.
To replace the idler pulley on a 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora with a Northstar V8 engine, first, disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the serpentine belt by using a wrench on the tensioner pulley to relieve tension. Then, unbolt the old idler pulley from its mounting bracket and replace it with the new pulley, ensuring it’s securely fastened. Finally, re-install the serpentine belt and reconnect the battery cable.
Replace the tensioner assembly as one piece.
If you are referring to the Serpentine belt, you loosen no pulley. You simply remove tension from the belt. The tension is applied by the Idler Pulley. Release the tension using a wrench etc from the idler pulley.
To replace the idler pulley on a 2004 Saturn Vue, first, disconnect the battery and relieve tension on the serpentine belt using a wrench on the tensioner pulley. Remove the serpentine belt from the idler pulley, then unbolt the old idler pulley from its mounting bracket. Install the new idler pulley, reattach the serpentine belt, and finally reconnect the battery. Always ensure the belt is properly aligned before starting the engine.
To apply tension
only if the idler arm will not hold the tension on the belt and the pulley needs replaced when the are warn sharp or warn flat
replace the belt with a goodyear bet
To replace the idler pulley belt on a 2007 Dodge Caliber, first, ensure the engine is off and cool. Remove the serpentine belt by using a wrench to relieve tension on the tensioner pulley, then slide the belt off the idler pulley. Next, unbolt the idler pulley from its mounting bracket, install the new pulley, and reattach it with the bolts. Finally, route the new serpentine belt back onto the pulleys according to the belt routing diagram and release the tensioner to apply tension to the belt.
Remove the old, damaged idler pulley and replace it with a new one.
I assume you mean the idler pulley on the A/C belt. I have not replaced this particular item but it should be simple. Looking from the top of the engine compartment on the passenger side you will see the idler pulley with a mounting/locking bolt which attaches the pulley and the tension adjusting point immediately above it. Loosen the pulley locking bolt by turning counter clockwise. Relieve belt tension by turning the adjuster bolt counter clockwise. Remove the belt and pulley. Replace in the reverse order.
