i just had this problem with my 93 probe, the rear view mirror fell off. i couldn't get mine apart either. I went to pepboys and they said there's a clip that you can't get to, but pepboys does sell a "button" all by itself. It' was like $4. Buy that. It takes about 5 minutes total to put it on. You'll just attach the new button to the windsheild, and the old rear view mirror to that.
The auto dimming rearview mirror contains chemicals that have either leaked out or deteriorated over time. You will have to replace the mirror.
Get some rear view mirror adhesive from an auto parts store.
