To take out the slack in the traction control cable on a Toro 20016 model, first, locate the adjustment mechanism, typically situated near the rear of the mower. Loosen the lock nut on the cable adjuster, then turn the adjuster to remove slack by pulling the cable taut. Once you’ve achieved the desired tension, re-tighten the lock nut to secure the adjustment. Always ensure the cable operates smoothly before finalizing your adjustments.
The drive cable on the Toro 20016 front drive mower is easily tightened. The difficulty is in knowing how. The answer is counter-intuitive and had me wondering for a day or so. I almost cut the cable to make it fit but that is NOT necessary. There are two important parts of the cable, the outer sleeve and the inner cable. The key is to route the outer sleeve away from the shortest route to the control handle. In other words do not run it directly from the clutch mechanism to the control handle. Allow it to bend toward the motor, away from the most direct path. Once you have all of the slack out of the sleeve, simply pull the sleeve back toward the clutch mechanism to tighten the inner cable. Pull it back from the adjustment locking collar on the handle. Lock it down at the adjustment collar.Allow some slack in the control cable to make the clutch easier to operate and hold in the engaged position. Trial and error will help you get the final adjustment.Remember, the outer sleeve can not be run directly from the clutch to the control handle. If you do that, the inner cable will seem to be more than two inches too long and you can not get the slack out.Had me guessing for a while but it is really very easy.
In telecommunications, a slack span refers to the length of cable that is intentionally left loose or "slack" between two points, typically to accommodate potential future adjustments or movements. The span length for slack spans can vary based on specific installation requirements, but it generally ranges from a few feet to several meters, depending on factors like environmental conditions and the type of cable used. Proper slack management is crucial to prevent strain and ensure the longevity of the cable infrastructure.
Check the emergancy brake cable- as it starts to wear, it stretches & leaves slack in the cable. There should be an adjustment to remove this slack. The tension in the cable pulls the lever to not make the switch for the brake light come on.

pull on it. The sheath takes up slack... makes the cable shorter.
Needs adjusted or replaced.
It depends on the size of the drive pulley to the cutter pulley. The shorter the belt is the less slack is caused and therefore the more traction is maintained between the belt and pulleys

Continue to lower the cable until you have enough slack in the cable to wiggle the holding bracket out of the spare.
Look down in the console in the slot the e-brake lever comes you will see a 10mm nut just tighten it up to remove all the slack Caution do not over tighten this nut or you will break the cable just tighten it enough to remove the slack if it feels like it doesn't want to turn anymore than stop there. If you still have lots of slack than you have a frozen cable
To adjust the throttle cable, first open the hood of the car and locate the cable. Then, adjust the screws on either side of the cable. Following that, tighten the cable so that it is taut and there is no slack, but it is not over tight.
