The current generation FA and FB motors are here to stay, and the CVT is becoming the standard in almost all of Subaru's vehicles. Only the STI uses the older generation EJ motor and is only available in a Manual Transmission.
These have been tweaked here and there but they're overall relatively identical in design. The boxer motor has only gone through 5 major changes in it's lifetime since 1971.
Yes.
The 2001 Subaru all back transmission dipstick is located behind the engine, in the engine compartment. The transmission dipstick should have a yellow handle.

Any transmission that is bolted to the same engine number. My subaru has an ea82 engine so any transmission that is bolted to an ea82 engine will fit. It has to be the same as far as automatic replacing automatic. Manual replacing manual.
The manual transmission dipstick on a 2002 Subaru WRX is on the passenger side of the engine bay. It is below the air cleaner.
Its on the transmission by the back of the engine, on the drivers side. Its held in by 2 bolts that also hold the transmission to the engine.
Yes, a 1998 Subaru Legacy transmission can generally fit into a 1999 Subaru Legacy, as both model years share similar drivetrain components. However, it's important to verify the specific engine type and transmission model, as variations may exist between different trims and engine configurations. Always consult compatibility guides or a professional mechanic to ensure a proper fit.
I would like to know how to fix my 1995 subaru legacy wagon 5 speed manua transmission, or if anyone knows or have the electrical wiring and electrical diagram for 1995 subaru legacy 5 speed manua transmission ? Thanks
Engine serial number is on the rear of the engine top left side. Illustration appears to be on the flange that bolts to the transmission.
You have to pull the engine or transmission. The Flex plate is at the back of the engine on an automatic transmission. 6-8 bolts hold the plate to the engine, and four bolts hold the plate to the tranny.
*Hopefully* the same as other Subaru engines, low down the left hand side about half way up the engine (facing the engine) there should be a short yellow loop. Check it when the engine is cold!
In a 1998 Subaru Forester, the transmission fluid is added through the transmission dipstick tube. To access it, locate the dipstick, which is typically found near the rear of the engine bay, and use a funnel to pour in the fluid. It's important to check the fluid level with the engine running and the transmission in park for an accurate reading. Always refer to the owner's manual for the correct type of transmission fluid and maintenance instructions.
