It is an unconventional, memorable and beautiful drive where you will average a driving time of no better then about 40 mph for the entire trip. It has greatly improved over the years but has not lost the driving excitement, the need for proper vehicle maintenance and the pleasure of owning a Hummer or a Range Rover. Many make that trek annually and few can wait for the time to migrate back to Home. Any trip of that distance (2,040 miles) requires planning, but a very large number of those Snowbirds add a couple of thousand more miles of driving to reach a snow free winter home in Mexico or the American Southwest. The short answer is that "No, it is not easy, but it is an adventure that very few, given such a chance, can resist".
