The crankshaft pulley is the lowest pulley on the engine. Looking at the engine from the front which is looking at it from the passenger side fender the crank pulley is on the bottom of the engine and has a pulley with a pulley behind it with teeth on it.
Open your hood and look at the front of your engine. There is a pulley connected to your power steering pump on the right side of your engine. It has hoses coming out of it. If you look below it your alternator should be there. It has a smaller pulley connected to it.
I'm assuming you mean a pulley, which is what the belts run on. If so, depending on which pulley the bearings could be bad or if it is the crankshaft pulley (big pulley near the bottom) the rubber could be getting bad.
your ac belt pulley might be shot. this connects the ac belt to the engine belt. we had a really noisey winey engine, and we changed that and it purred like a kitten.
remove drive belt and check all pulley wheels for freedom of movement sounds like a pulley wheel is bad, probably the belt tensioner pulley

That would be the pulley belt. Take a bar of any hard soap and carefully rub some on the underneath of the belt (the part that faces down) then start the car back up, it should stop the chirping. Have a mechanic check the belt condition ASAP.
Because the air conditioning compressor, is run from a pulley off of the engine. This puts an additional load on the engine, which causes more fuel to be used.

most likely a belt is slipping on a pulley ie. pulley not turning freely belt loose or dirty or worn out to the maximum i have a similar smell coming from my car, mine is coming from a leaking rocker head? i think that's what it was called. hope that helps
